MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The organisers of the anti Qouta Movement, a Northern Region based grouping, have lashed at the Church and Society of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia for frustrating its agenda.
The Movement, which has been fighting for abolition of Quota System of selecting students to secondary schools and public universities, was put in place by some activists in the Northern Region.
According to the Spokesperson for the Movement, Reverend William Mumba, Church and Society, which initially volunteered to mediate talks between government and the Movement, has been used by the Government to sabotage the agenda of the group.
Reverend Mumba further accused the Executive Director of Church and Society, Moses Mkandawire, for coordinating with the Government and yet he was removed as the Chairperson of the Movement.
Mumba also indicated that about ninety Members of Parliment have also rallied behind the Movement and they will table it in the Assembly as private members bill during the next sitting.
However, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) , Justin Saidi, said government is already working with Church and Society and cannot work with two teams at the same time over the same matter.
Anti Quota Movement wants government to nullify this year’s Standard Eight examination results; arguing that most of the students who were selected into public secondary schools came from Southern and Central Regions of Malawi, while those from the north emerged victims of the circumstance.
